Winter csa starts tomorrow: a couple of notes on eggs and soil

There are a few new winter csa members and a reminder to return members: the winter pick-up is in the root cellar from 2-6pm below the yellow cabin by the greenhouses. Go to the door on the north side and down the stairs. I’ll have signs to help guide you the first time. Also, I do not wash the winter roots for two reasons: they keep better with the soil still on, and I don’t have a good winter washing set up… so they have some soil on them. This year, with October being one of the driest I’ve seen, there’s not much soil on the roots. Some years every carrot that comes out of the ground has a coat of mud that has to be wiped off. Not this year!

And a quick egg note for the egg customers. It’s only been a week since the last summer shares, so I don’t have enough eggs for all of you to get two doz. I’ll prioritize giving two doz to the Friday members who got eggs a week and a half ago. It will be two weeks before the next winter pick-up so there will be more time to accumulate enough. But as the daylight decreases and the temperatures get colder the chickens will not lay as many. We’ll see how it all plays out!

See some of you tomorrow!
