I was planning to begin my winter bi-weekly Durham Foodbank delivery this Tuesday Nov 10, unfortunately my vehicle is in the shop for repairs and I can’t do it. If anyone is able to come by the farm around 8:30 am Tuesday morning and take some produce to Durham it would be greatly appreciated. Email or text me if you can: saugeenrivercsa@gmail.com or 519 369 8116.
For many years Liz and Barney Barningham donated a share from the farm to those in the community in need. A couple years ago a CSA member wanted to continue that tradition and helped create a Liz and Barney memorial fund in which I accept funds to go towards providing produce to community partners. Serendipitously, Lydia Dyck and Suraiya Foss-Phillips began the Gleaning Project aimed at facilitating produce getting from local farms to foodbanks and community kitchens. This season with their help and delivery help from Roger Gannon, the Durham foodbank received 383.5 lbs of produce from the farm and OSHARE in Owen Sound received 437.5 lbs.
I will continue delivering veggies to the Durham foodbank through the winter (although I need help getting it there this week).
Thanks to everyone for helping to make this happen!
